About The Position:

Upcoming Scheduled Salary Increase of 3% Effective July 2026

Under the general direction of the Principal Traffic Engineer, this mid-management, at-will classification performs professional level traffic engineering work involving the design, construction, operation and maintenance of traffic control equipment and facilities to ensure the safety of the motoring public; may provide supervisory activities such as assigning work, monitoring project progress and providing technical assistance; training and evaluating the performance of subordinate professional and technical staff; performs difficult and responsible engineering work; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this classification. An example would be:

EDUCATION: A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; and

EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of progressively responsible and recent experience in Traffic Engineering with at least three (3) years at an Associate Traffic or Civil Engineer level.

Registration as a Professional Traffic Engineer in the State of California is required at the time of hire. Registration as a civil engineer may be substituted, provided significant traffic engineering experience can be demonstrated.
